I never realized that the people who paid the farmers made such a profit. 3.6Billion dollars?? It is really pathetic that they do that.
I do think, however, that if those people didn't get paid to farm, most of them would be on the street homeless, however degrading their job is, at least it keeps them away from that.

Nexium,
Considering the state of the economy in China, the money that these people are pulling from farming-for-business is pretty decent.

No one can sue ebay. ebay doesn't care if it's against anet rules or eula, that's none of their concern. The EULA is between anet/ncsoft and the player, not ebay. There isn't anything illegal with selling ingame items for cash, you can't go to jail or get sued for it. The worst ANet can do is ban the account, because it's the only avenue of retribution open to them.

Just a quick correction to the original linked article. The Gold Farming industry isn't making $3.6B a year, the gaming industry in general is.

Surely the entire gaming industry pulls more than that?

Doubtful about that... it was only up to the low hundred-millions a few years ago, wasn't it?

Whatever the number is, about half of it is WoW regardless.
And "bots" and/or "sweatshop farmers" have never really bothered me, and its fun at times to watch the army of monks leave Elonas/Droks/etc. (Yes I get bored easily.)
I do think they need to improve the quality of some of the bots though, seeing as several times while bot-fishing (I shouldn't need to explain what that is) the monk in fact died.

i wouldnt count on that. the average online game costs what ? 15 dolars a month or something, but over 50% of the bigger gear driven games buys money online. and spend MORE then that 15 dollars a month on extra cash for them ingame.
i would estimate all farmers togther put together 4 times more cash then the games themselves

I'm not saying that I've actually researched how much the gaming industry is making, but $3.6 "Billion" is quite a bit to make for an industry in a year. I was just shoring up misinformation given in the original linked blogpost. The article that the blog links to states that the Gaming industry is pulling $3.6 Billion, not the famers.

Im just going to assume most ppl here r american so if anyone nos the history after the civil war with all the slaves freed the economy was ruined. because the plantation owners had no workers they could make no money. Picture the head of these companies the slaves. And their ownes china. shut down these things china gets hurt economically. so we might be better off supporting these guys? its only a game
i dont no much but thats my 2 cents
